Once it has kicked in and operated normally for at least, oh, 15 minutes or more, it will usually start putting out cool air within 30 seconds or so after re-starting. It takes being off for something like 6+ hours before it reverts back to delaying the a/c from coming on for that 3-5 min. delay. TheEinstein. When the A/C is running, the low side (larger of the two A/C lines) should be sweating. If no moisture accumulation (condensation) is appearing on the line, it may not have a pure refrigerant charge. If it is covered in frost after running, that is a sign of low refrigerant pressure. E34, E36, E36/7. if you use the a/c, its a good idea to have an aux fan there because without that your a/c system may heat up and build up too much pressure. the aux fan is there with the a/c to keep the condensor cooled so it doesnt over pressurize the freon and essentially explode. (been there before. not fun)
Tested for power and ground. Found no voltage to the fan motor. Then check for power at the rear distribution box fuse 127 had battery voltage. Then removed the right front inner fender liner and checked the voltage at the relay. Had the proper voltage going into the relay and no voltage coming out due to a faulty relay.

2. Unplug the fan and either unhook the blade guard or unscrew the pin. Pull the fan’s electrical cord out to keep it from turning on randomly while you’re working on it. Feel around the sides of the blade guards for clips that are holding the 2 parts together. If there are clips, unhook them and remove the front half.

If this is not a setting issue you are low on refrigerant gas and have a leak in the system. When the gas is low the system will direct whatever cooling is available to the driver's side. i.e. passenger side will blow warm/feel less cool than the driver side for the same temperature setting. If everything is working correct with the temperature
Once the leak has been found, this must be closed again by replacing the respective component. 4. Dirty evaporator. Dirty evaporator can also be the reason for AC problems on your BMW X5. Cabin air filter captures most of the dirt or other airborne particles, but some escape and fall on to the evaporator.
AIR was coming on and not shutting off now not blowing at all. 2000 BMW 528i. Fan flows at full blast. Dealer fix under warranty. 1997 BMW 528i 117,000 mi, Fan switch works intermittently (ac/heat) 2000 BMW 528i 63,000 mi, Fan motor stopped working. Replaced the final stage fan resister and everything working again.
Your problem could be simple as a bad connection to the aux fan as mentioned earlier by Flyboyy. Or, could just be a bad aux fan. I know for a fact on later years cars, if your aux fan is bad, there will be no power to the compressor, you can read the codes and it will tell you if you have a bad aux fan or not. 02- 530-Blown.

The air conditioner would work, and you could tell it was cold but the air would not blow out of the vents. Also this would happen off and on for about 6 months. The air conditioning would work and blow cold air, then it seemed like on the really HOT days it would not blow the cold air at all, so i had enough!!! The temp sensor in the lower hose is the one the DME uses for the Aux fan. You can’t read that temp in the cluster. The engine coolant temp sensor in the water pump will also start the Aux running as well as turning on the AC. You generally won’t see the Aux fan spinning as soon as you turn the AC on.
