It really impresses upon you the scale of what you're about to go up against, and later, who you're playing as. That beating was one of the most savage displays in a video game I've ever seen.
It also doesn't feel hard at all since it's a very very quick game to beat. If you have played god of war 1 or 2 on normal mode, a few times each, then "hard" mode on GOW3 should not be too bad, since you are used to the general mechanics of the game.
